A Professorship in Ibero-Romance and General Literature (open rank, 75%) is to be filled at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of the University of Basel beginning on August 1, 2027, or by appointment with the successful applicant.
Depending on the qualifications of the person to be appointed, the appointment will be made at the level of Tenure Track Assistant Professor (TTAP), Associate Professor or Full Professor.

Your assignments
We are looking for a scholar able to represent Ibero-Romance and General Literature in teaching and research across the entire field, demonstrating an appropriate range and theoretical-methodological diversity.
- Preference will be given to applicants whose profile takes into account the cross-epochal and cross-national relevance of Ibero-Romance literatures and cultures, including their postcolonial relevance, and who therefore have strong connections to related disciplines such as History, Art History, and/or American studies.
- In addition, applicants are expected to be able to connect with the field of general literary studies (in terms of Literary Theory and Comparative studies) and to have expertise in the field of digitization as a methodological approach, research object, or editorial practice.
- Contribution to the interdisciplinary teaching and research profile of the Department of Languages and Literatures with its transversal programs at the Bachelor, Master, and Doctoral level is expected.
- In addition to the ability to teach in the target language at the highest level, the willingness to integrate courses in other languages (English, German) into the interphilological curriculum and to participate in them in an appropriate manner is expected.
Your profile
- Applicants must have an excellent PhD, substantial post-doctoral research experience, and an excellent research and publication record according to their academic age.
- Experience in teaching and familiarity with digital tools for teaching and research are also expected.
- Applicants must have excellent Spanish language skills.
- Applicants must be willing to offer regular courses in English or German.
- Commitment to supervising doctoral students and acquiring third-party funding is required, as is the ability to work in a team and a willingness to participate in academic self-administration.
