In the HEADS Lab, Department of Sport, Exercise and Health, Faculty of Medicine, University of Basel, a fixed-term postdoctoral position (4 years) is available starting on 1st June 2026 or later.

The main research focus of our division is the relationship between physical activity and cognitive performance across development. Possible research topics within this position include, among others, “Embodied Learning”, physical activity and sport in Developmental Disorders, and the cognitive effects of physical activity and sports in school settings. Our research group adopts a methodological approach combining behavioral measures with neurophysiological processes, using electro-encephalography (EEG), functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS), and eye tracking.

Your assignments

•    Conduct independent research within the division’s thematic areas
•    Set up experimental configurations for neurophysiological measurement methods
•    Publish scientific articles in international peer-reviewed journals
•    Actively participate in national and international conferences
•    Implement measures for science communication
•    Acquire third-party funding for research projects
•    Supervise Bachelor’s and Master’s theses and train study personnel
•    Plan and conduct teaching units and examinations in Bachelor’s and Master’s programs (up to a maximum of 3 semester hours per week)
•    Participate in academic self-governance

Your profile

•    Completed relevant university degree (Master’s or equivalent) and a completed PhD in sport science, psychology, or a related field
•    Experience in data acquisition using EEG, fNIRS, and/or eye tracking, as well as advanced expertise in subsequent data processing and analysis
•    Experience in the administration of cognitive tests
•    Evidence of thematically relevant scientific publications in international peer-reviewed journals
•    Experience in conducting empirical studies and knowledge of statistical data analysis (e.g., SPSS, R, Jamovi)
•    Very good knowledge of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) or willingness to obtain further training
•    High level of self-motivation and a very independent, structured working style
•    Very good command of English and at least basic knowledge of German (equivalent to A2 level)
